Pekin Hill Farms is a family owned and operated farm located 30 miles south of Rochester, Minn. The name Pekin (pronounced Peek-in) comes from the nickname of a very small town called Pilot Mound. We were told the nickname “Pekin” was given because when you drive through the rolling hills of the root river valley that Pilot Mound is nestled in, you merely peek in as you drive through.
Joe and Amanda McCabe both grew up in the Pilot Mound area their whole lives. Joe grew up on his family farm and later began farming full time with his dad shortly after high school. He always had a passion for raising animals and hoped to build a legacy for his children. After getting married in 2009, Joe and Amanda had four children; Trayton, Addison, Jaxon, and Hazel. Working together as a family to operate the day to day tasks is something that brings great pride in running their small family farm!
